City of Nagoya Day 5 - Nagoya Castle, Gate Tower Mall, Disneystore Nagoya, Maruha Shokudo

Last day in Japan, we are going to explore Nagoya before heading back to Taiwan on our evening flight. Nagoya (名古屋) is Japan's fourth most populated city. It is the capital of Aichi Prefecture and the principal city of the Nobi plain, one of Honshu's three large plains and metropolitan and industrial centers. The popular "Nagoya" sign with its signature red and yellow like autumn.

Opening Hours  : 9:00 to 16:30 (entry to buildings ends at 16:00)  Closed  December 29 to January 1
Admission :  500 yen
Access : From Nagoya Station, take the Sakuradori Subway Line to Hisayaodori Station (5 minutes) and change to the Meijo Subway Line to Shiyakusho Station (2 minutes). The total one way journey takes about ten minutes and costs 240 yen. From the nearest exit, it is a three minute walk to the castle's east gate.

Nagoya Castle (名古屋城, Nagoyajō) was built in the beginning of the Edo Period as the seat of one of the three branches of the ruling Tokugawa family, the Owari branch. As such, it was one of the largest castles in the country, and the castle town around it ultimately grew to become Japan's fourth largest city. Too bad its closed so we can't see the surrounding inside the castle. We can only admired it from a far.

If you love shrimp, Nagoya is an amazing place to visit. Aichi Prefecture has one of the highest shrimp consumptions in the country. This is probably because shrimp can be easily fished in the Ise Bay. And because seafood tastes best when it’s fresh. Fried shrimp are served on a bed of cabbage together with a bowl of rice, a dark red Miso soup, and some pickles. There are also sets that include Sashimi or a salad topped with shrimp. Our last delicious meals in Nagoya.
